How Does The Use of Blog Differ from a Country to Others?
INDONESIA
In Indonesia, blog is not yet familiar compared to developed countries such as Singapore, Japan, America, etc. However, blog has been introducing times to times. People started knowing it. Blog is also introduced in schools in order to make the teaching-learning process easier. Some teachers introduce blog by taking their students to a multimedia room. Other teachers who have no multimedia room in their schools introduce blog in class. They ask the students to create their own blog afterwards. Having blog gives many benefits for the students. They will be more interested in the materials because they learn the materials through something new, that is blog. They can also enjoy reading their friends' blogs and leaving comments. It stimulates students to be more responsive towards their friends' writing. Unfortunately, because of the limited facilities provided by the schools, not all students in Indonesia can do blogging. Either the students or teachers limitation of technology knowledge also become challenge in teaching students through blog.
BRAZIL
Students in this country are stimulated to write more through blog. They are asked to post as many writings as possible. After that they will read their friends' blogs and leave comments one each other. Here the students will learn about many texts as they read many friends' blogs. Those activities enrich their vocabulary and widen their knowledge. Teachers of course take part here. They can give assignments through blog. Besides, students are allowed to communicate with their teachers via blog. Therefore, students and teachers are more connected. However, how to develop students' creativity and imagine can be a challenge for the teachers. Other challenges that have to be solved by the teachers are how to keep the interaction high and how to promote interaction in the blog. That is why teachers are forced to be more creative in handling such conditions.
ARGENTINA
Language is learnt to communicate. All people in this world need to communicate. So do students. In academic context, good communication between students and teachers should be built because it is the bridge to a success teaching-learning process. Here in Argentina teachers use recording method to their students. Teachers invite a mystery guest. Students will communicate with the guest. In the end, students have to guess who the guest is, through the blog of course. This conversational-recorded method encourages students to speak more. It is good to improve their speaking ability. However, this method is not as easy as we think. Teachers should have good strategies in encouraging their students to speak. Teachers, in this case, are also challenged to emerge students' bravery.
TAIWAN
Presentation is a good way in training students to deliver their ideas, put forward their arguments, etc. In Taiwan, using video recording which contains students' presentation is a common thing. Of course it is good to train them practicing public speaking. Other students upload their self-presentations and ask their friends to leave comment. Besides, they can also use video to do self evaluation. The blog provides plenty facilities to enhance students' own skill. Of course it is challenging for the teachers. If the facilities are sufficient, then teachers should balance it by updating themselves in technology continously.
